This stock is for the Remington 700 BDL long action with the sporter contour barrel. It is in the French Walnut with checkering on the grip and forend. This stock has some minor dings on the buttstock so that is why it is being discounted.
Cooper Firearms of Montana builds some of the finest semi-custom and custom rifles in the USA, all with their own hand-fitted stocks. Please note that Cooper rifles are not the same inlet as a Rem 700, it's only since the last SHOT Show that we've worked to bring these factory 700 inlets to the aftermarket.
All Cooper stocks feature precision inletting for factory Remington® hinged floorplate bottom metal and sporter barrel contour, 1” Pachmayr Old English Decelerator butt pad, and a 13-3/4” length of pull. A vertical pistol style grip and deep reliefs behind the grip provide excellent comfort.
Precision inletting allows for factory rifles to drop right in, although very minor fitting may be required. Bedding is recommended. Custom gunsmiths will love this precision inletting - it is cut for standard 700 hinged floorplate bottom metal with a sporter barrel contour. The inlet itself is a very tight stock-to-metal fit as you'd expect in a custom Cooper rifle. Since the fit is so precise on my test rifle(s), my guess is some folks will be doing a bit of fitting for aftermarket triggers, etc..
Standard factory R700 sporters (.308 / .30-06, etc.) will drop in and barrels will float out nicely of the box. Magnum sporters (.300 SAUM, .300 Win, etc) may require a bit of sanding for the barrel to float, they too drop right in but I like a bit more clearance.
Stocky's recommends bedding all of our Cooper stocks. These wood models are left oil-free in the bedding areas, so if you don't want to bed please be sure to rub some Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil ($7.96 / bottle at Walmart) on before bolting everything up for good, and reapply it to the entire stock from time to time to make it look new again.
Specifications:
- Just over 2 lbs (wood always varies slightly)
- Length of Pull: 13.75'
- Length Overall.: 30.5'
